Why are we so obsessed with toxic, brooding book boyfriends?

We’re all obsessed with the Rhysands, and Xadens of the world, and I’m not going to debate who I’d pick, because let’s face it I couldn’t. I’d pick one and shove the other into a suitcase and bring him anyway…

But what intrigues me is how we have totally fallen in love with men who are, let’s face it, quite toxic. And their creators don’t usually share their backstory. So they’re a toxic mess, shrouded in mystery, and we beg for more!

And I 100% raise my hand and am right there alongside you.
